Most people would tell you that Fenton is in Genesee County, but there are small parts of the city that are actually located in Livingston County and Oakland County. The city made news in 2007 when it was struck by an F2 tornado which destroyed many homes and a couple of major businesses. Despite the state of emergency and no electricity in many areas, no one was seriously injured. You may be traveling into the area for sports such as golf or swimming, and if so you'll need to know what the best places are to eat and drink. Here's a list of our favorite restaurants and bars in the 48430 zip code.
The French Laundry - The name may not sound like a restaurant, but this European style bistro has some of the best food that you'll find in Fenton. Giant sandwiches and delicious soups are the true stars in the afternoon, but if you get there early they've got the best breakfasts in town. Excellent coffee too. Beer drinkers will enjoy their rare imports from Belgium, Germany, the UK, and India. Excellent service and wonderful ambiance. Located at the corner of West Shiawassee Avenue and South Adelaide Street.
Fenton Hotel - There's nothing better than a delicious lunch or dinner at the Fenton Hotel. Some say it's haunted, so amateur ghost hunters will love watching for spooks while they dine on delicious escargot and bacon wrapped scallops. They have recently added booths which makes it a little less fancy and a little more comfortable. Sitting at the full bar is always nice too. Located on Leroy Street north of Main.
Lucky's Steak House - Many will tell you that Lucky's is the best place to eat in Fenton. If you love steaks, this is a must. The prime rib and filet mignon are absolutely the best we've ever had. We really love the subdued and relaxing atmosphere here, and the waitstaff is always very friendly and accommodating even when they have a restaurant full of customers. Located on Silver Parkway north of Owen Road.
Fenton House Restaurant - Fenton House Restaurant has such great ambiance. From the moment you walk through the door you know that you can just relax and enjoy a wonderful dinner with your family or friends. It's very family friendly with an arcade room in the back for the kids, but it's classy enough for business lunches or meeting with that special someone. We recommend the mostaccioli and Greek salads, and of course the breadsticks are essential. Located on Leroy Street south of Main.
Sagebrush Cantina - Definitely a cut above the other Mexican restaurants you've been to, Sagebrush Cantina has delicious enchiladas and burritos and all your favorites, plus a few specialties that you may have never tried before. We really love the Super Burrito which you may easily overlook on the a la carte menu. It's giant and so delicious. The waiters are always so friendly and eager to help you choose the best dish on the menu. You'll find Sagebrush Cantina on Fenton Road north of Long Lake Road.
Walden's Tavern - Walden's is a true local favorite and is an absolute local landmark. They've been open for at least twenty years, maybe longer, and there's no better place to relax and enjoy some drinks. There are pool tables and a jukebox so you can play some games and listen to your favorite hits. They've got a decent selection of beers, always ice cold on draft. And the staff is really remarkable. Very caring and attentive. We highly recommend this cozy little bar, located on Leroy Street, north of North Road.
Joe & Lewie's Penalty Box - Joe & Lewie's Penalty Box is owned by former Red Wings Joe Kocur and Dave Lewis. The decor is great for Red Wings fans and hockey fans in general. The food is delicious and in generous enough portions to satisfy even the biggest appetites. We love the monster burger and the jambalaya. Needless to say there are tons of TVs scattered throughout the bar so you can catch all the hockey games. And the selection of beer and liquor is great. Located on Owen Road between Shiawassee Avenue and Fenway Drive.
PD's Pub - Despite the word pub in the name, this feels more like a biker bar combined with a sports bar to us. And we're not complaining. They play a great mix of music here from top 40 to rock to hip hop and rap. The drink prices are very cheap, and the food is delicious. They've got pool tables, darts, and trivia to keep you occupied while you're waiting on your food and drinks. You'll find PD's on Fenton Road north of Clyde.
The Fireplace - We love this cozy tavern. The locals gather here for cheap drinks and good times, and it seems like everybody here knows each other. They're welcoming to everyone even if you've never stepped foot in the bar before. You can find this comfortable getaway spot at the north end of Lake Fenton, on Long Lake Road between Wiggins and Brown Street.
Olde Hickory Bar - This is yet another cozy little tavern in Fenton. The drinks are cheap, the bar food is fresh and delicious, and the company is always good. The bartenders are always happy to engage in conversation with the patrons, and waitresses are always busy keeping your glass filled and making sure that you're taken care of. You can find this one on Bennett Lake Road between Close Drive and Crosby Road.
